March 2002 -- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of
Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ), demonstrates its strength as an end-to-end document
management provider at the AIIM 2002 Show that opens in San Francisco
March 6, showcasing a broad selection of hardware and software imaging
products, including a new workgroup document scanner and a powerful
software system that works across a wide range of peripherals and
networked devices. AIIM 2002 will run through March 8.
At its booth (#1105), Canon will preview the
DR-2080C, a sleek, compact digital document scanner that scans up to 40
images-per-minute (ipm) and includes the same superior document handling,
image quality and color capability as all Canon DR-Series scanners. Canon
will also demonstrate its imageWARE suite of software products that work
with Canon's full line of digital document and microfilm scanners as well
as Canon's award-winning imageRUNNER multifunction devices.
imageWARE Suite
Canon's imageWARE suite, which includes Scan Manager for production level
scanning, and Document Manager, offering comprehensive storage and
management, enables users to create a centralized database of digitized
documents that can be shared throughout the enterprise. imageWARE,
however, expands upon traditional document management functions by tightly
linking to Canon hardware, including DR-Series Scanners and imageRUNNERs.
"Canon's imageWARE redefines the concept of a
document," said Dennis Amorosano, director and assistant general
manager, Canon Copier and Networked Office Systems. "By linking
multiple input, output and distribution processes together, imageWARE
represents the glue that binds customer information management processes
together."
One of the key elements of the imageWARE suite is
its scalability, signaling Canon's commitment to provide a complete
document management solution for customers of all sizes. imageWARE
Document Manager has a modular design -- it can be built as a small
office/single-server system or as an enterprise-wide, multiple-server
system -- so it offers small organizations the same document management
functions as their larger counterparts. imageWARE Document Manager also
can be easily upgraded. For more information on the features and functions
of the imageWARE suite, visit www.imageWARE.com.
DR-2080C Scanner
The DR-2080C, Canon's unique entry into the workgroup scanner market
segment, is designed for customers who need fast, reliable scanning for
many varied applications. According to InfoTrends Research Group's 2001
Document Imaging Scanner Market Forecast and Analysis, the North American
workgroup scanner market segment consisting of devices that scan between
10-20 ppm is expected to have a compound annual growth rate of 34 percent
from 2001-2002, with an estimated 28,700 units sold through this year.
With the introduction of the DR-2080C scanner, Canon expects to become a
major player in this market.
"Since the introduction of the DR-3020 in
1996, Canon's DR-Series scanners have become top-sellers in both the
low-volume production and departmental market segments,
respectively," said George Morris, product marketing manager, Canon
Image Filing Systems. "We believe the trim form, elegant design and
proven DR-Series performance characteristics will be well received by the
market and will expand opportunities for where and how documents are
captured."
With a profile barely the size of a standard file
folder, the DR-2080C measures less than one foot wide, less than 8 inches
high and 3.5 inches deep. Although it weighs just over 5 pounds, the
DR-2080C packs a powerful punch. Canon's DR-2080C can scan at duplex
speeds of up to 40 ipm in black and white or grayscale (8 bit) and up to
14 ipm in color (24 bit). The automatic document feeder in the DR-2080C
can handle up to 50 documents of varying sizes.
The Canon DR-2080C comes bundled with feature-rich
ISIS and TWAIN drivers that are compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000,
XP and Windows NT operating systems and the scanner utilizes a high-speed
SCSI-II interface. The Canon DR-2080C document scanner also meets ENERGY
STAR standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Digital Document Scanners Also Shown
Canon's document handling capabilities will be
further demonstrated at AIIM through its complete line of DR-Series.
Included in Canon's booth will be:
The color DR-3080C and black and white DR-3060
scanners, Better Buys for Business 2001 "Editor's Choice" award
winners, with scanning speeds of up to 86 ipm.
The high-performance, award-winning color DR-5080C
and black and white DR-5020, which offer simplex and duplex scanning at
speeds up to 90 ipm.
