eCopy Paper Distribution Products Available for imageRUNNER 7200

Traditional Office Copiers Continue to Transform Document
Workflow with Minimal IT Investment

Nashua, NH, April 17, 2002 – eCopy, Inc. a leading provider of products that transform paper documents into digital information, and Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ) and a leader in digital imaging products and solutions, announced today the availability of the eCopy suite of paper distribution products on the imageRUNNER 7200 Networked Office System. Together, Canon and eCopy, continue to offer the enterprise a unique solution for their paper distribution problems without the risk and expense of implementing new information processing technology or systems.

“Our products offer today’s IT decision maker the ability to transform their paper based information into digital documents that can be used with their existing enterprise applications and network infrastructure,” said Edward Schmid, president and CEO of eCopy, Inc. “We are offering an inexpensive, minimum support product that marries two common office products, the copier and e-mail.”

The eCopy suite of products coupled with the high speed scanning capabilities of a Canon digital copier, enable any user in an organization to transform paper documents into information that is easily integrated into all commonly used business applications. Using eCopy, companies can provide shared access to high-speed scanners that connect to the company’s e-mail and other networked enterprise applications for low-cost, easy, instantaneous distribution and management of electronic copies of paper documents.

“Our partnership has helped hundreds of companies reduce fax and overnight letter costs and create competitive advantage by speeding up existing document oriented processes,” said Dennis Amorosano, director and assistant general manager for Canon U.S.A.’s Copier and Network Office Systems Division.

“The Canon and eCopy partnership brings ease of use and advanced functionality to today’s office copier.”

High Speed Scanning and Document Distribution
The high-speed scanning capability of the imageRUNNER 7200 can potentially replace more traditional methods of document distribution such as fax, mail, and overnight delivery services at a significant savings in cost and time. By supporting resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi in scan mode, the imageRUNNER 7200 uses Canon Network ScanGear, a 32-bit TWAIN-compliant driver that allows the transmission of scanned images from the device platen or feeder to be sent to a client desktop or server on the network. Preset scanning resolutions using Network ScanGear are at 150, 200, 300, 400, and 600 dpi, with actual scanning speed dependent on the level of grayscale selected and image composition of documents.

A complete document distribution system using the imageRUNNER 7200, Canon’s Network Printer Kit, eCopy’s ScanStation hardware, and eCopy ShareScan and Desktop software is also available, as follows:

eCopy ScanStation:
A small-format touch-screen and a CPU that attaches easily to a Canon imageRUNNER Series digital copier. To make an eCopy, a user can simply place the paper document in the copier’s document feeder and choose one of several “send” options shown as icons on the eCopy ScanStation touch-screen panel.

eCopy ShareScan:
ShareScan runs on a customized PC, which connects to an imageRUNNER device. With ShareScan, users enable their imageRUNNER to scan and route paper documents via e-mail or network fax, and save documents to document management systems. ShareScan tightly integrates with popular e-mail applications allowing users to send paper documents directly from the imageRUNNER using their personal account to Lotus Notes Mail and Microsoft Exchange.

eCopy Desktop:
eCopy Desktop is a desktop document imaging application that can process documents captured by ShareScan. eCopy Desktop users can save electronic copies of these paper documents, mark them up using the annotation tools (stamp, highlight, add text, underline, etc.), convert the scanned image to text using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), route them via e-mail and network fax and save them using document management systems. Documents such as contracts, invoices, delivery receipts, application forms, sensitive legal documents, and hand-edited engineering drawings can easily be delivered with substantial savings in time and money compared to traditional fax, overnight courier, or interoffice mail services.
