Scanner Bundles Form, Function And Flexibility Into A Feature-Rich
Scanning Package
Canon's
First Workgroup-Segment Document Scanner Is Fast, Easy-to-Use and Compact
Enough to Bring Scanning to New Environments
LAKE SUCCESS, NY, September 5,
2002 -- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging technology and a
subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), today introduces the DR-2080C, a new
business document color scanner for the fast-growing workgroup market
segment. With a profile barely the size of a standard file folder, the
DR-2080C measures less than one foot wide, less than 8 inches high and
just 3.5 inches deep. Its light weight - a mere 5.5 lbs. - and optional
carrying case make transporting the DR-2080C a snap. The nimble DR-2080C
can scan black-and-white or grayscale letter-size documents at speeds of
up to 20 ppm (40 images-per-minute duplex) and 24-bit color documents at
up to 7 ppm (14 images-per-minute duplex)*. Despite its compact size, the
DR-2080C ships with a wide array of features and functions that make it
ideal for workgroups and distributed scanning applications.
"There is a growing trend
toward decentralizing the processing of document-based information and
Canon's DR-2080C is well poised to take advantage of this trend,"
said George Morris, product marketing manager for Canon U.S.A.'s
DR-Scanners. "The DR-2080C has the reliable performance and great
value inherent in Canon's DR line of scanners, but its eloquent design and
superb engineering truly distinguish it from competitors' offerings. This
scanner has all the features the market is looking for and it will raise
the standard of performance for entry level users," Morris added.
Proven Technology In A Smaller
Package - The Canon DR-2080C's small footprint enables the scanner to fit
just about anywhere. The key to the scanner's size is its compact sensor
unit, which also enables the DR-2080C to achieve high speeds as well as
high image resolution of up to 600 dpi in black-and-white, grayscale or
24-bit color.
Smooth paper feeding is essential
to efficient scanning and the DR-2080C does not disappoint. One of its key
design elements is the scanner's document feeding system, which
incorporates unique Canon technology typically found on higher-end
scanners. The DR-2080C also features an on-screen control panel that
allows users to easily select the correct scan settings for each job and
also includes 20 sets of programmable user preferences so the system can
keep track of different settings for different kinds of jobs.
Powerful, Bundled Software Drives
Increased Productivity - Robust, Canon-engineered software and drivers
turn the scanner into an easy-to-use, versatile tool. Features that add
value to the DR-2080C include Scan-to-Email; Color Drop Out for red, green
or blue; Skew Correction; and Searchable PDF, which allows users to scan a
document and create a PDF file capable of being searched by text content.
ScanSoft's OmniPage SE software for Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
comes bundled with the DR-2080C, as do ISIS and TWAIN drivers, which are
compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP and Windows NT operating
systems. The scanner utilizes a high-speed SCSI-II interface. A SCSI
interface board and cable also ship with the DR-2080C.
The Canon DR-2080C carries the
seal of approval from a number of software companies that have certified
the scanner with their products. These companies include: Adobe Systems
Incorporated; DocuWare Corporation; eCopy, Inc.; ExperExchange Inc.; Kofax
Image Products; LEAD Technologies, Inc.; Microsystems Technology, Inc.;
Optical Image Technology, Inc.; ScanSoft Inc.; The CUTTER COMPANIES, Inc.,
and TMSSequoia.
