Canon U.S.A. Enhances
imageWARE Software Suite with New Workflow Features
Additions Make Document
Manager and Scan Manager More Flexible;
Canon Also Improves imageWARE Document Manager Gateway
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 2002--
Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ - News) today
announces additions to its imageWARE suite of software products that will
increase the functionality of the software and improve the overall
efficiency of workflow in the office.
The improvements to Canon's imageWARE Document
Manager and imageWARE Scan Manager will greatly boost customers' ability
to effectively distribute documents and manage paperwork while further
leveraging their investments in office equipment technology.
"The market for content and document
management services is growing quickly and Canon is positioning its
imageWARE suite of software products to pick up a large share of this
market," said Dennis Amorosano, director and assistant general
manager of the Copier and Networked Office Systems Division for Canon
U.S.A. "Canon has designed its imageWARE products to be useful to a
wide range of users, with multiple applications in the office and we're
confident that the enhancements we are announcing today will make
imageWARE Document Manager and imageWARE Scan Manager even more useful and
productive tools."
imageWARE Document Manager Enhancements
For 2002, Canon has enriched both the structure
and feature set of imageWARE Document Manager. Additions to the 2002
software include:
Windows XP compatibility
MSDE database support
Concurrent licensing (up to 25 licenses) in the Workgroup Edition
Document expiration functions in the Enterprise Edition
User index groups for creating document types
Content searching by natural sentences.
The 2002 Document Manager software also integrates
an imageRUNNER mailbox browsing function and adds a document
"binder" function. Tight integration with the imageRUNNER
mailbox browsing function is designed to support enterprise continuity
across hardware and software. Documents can be imported into the Document
Manager either manually or automatically for improved workflow that
seamlessly converts hardcopy documents to digital content. This allows
customers to increase the value in using office equipment technology for
day-to-day document management and distribution.
The binder function can be used for digital case
management, file management, and project management as a method of
logically linking related documents as one file and distributing them
together. Customers can use Canon's imageRUNNER's finishing capabilities
to perform basic publishing of the binder, making it easier for them to
distribute multiple documents as one finished print job.
imageWARE Scan Manager Enhancements
imageWARE Scan Manager enhancements include
recognition of several standard barcode formats and forms and the
inclusion of user-friendly wizards for easier customer use and simplified
setup. Canon has also upgraded imageWARE Scan Manager so it can receive
documents from the imageWARE Document Manager Gateway.
imageWARE Document Manager Gateway Enhancements
The 2002 edition of imageWARE Document Manager
Gateway will now support the FTP or file transfer protocol as well as the
Salutation protocol. This feature enables images to be captured in
real-time from imageRUNNER Universal Send-capable devices, file servers
and Web servers and even automatically indexed once they are captured.
Ultimately, the images can be stored in the Document Manager database,
ensuring that information is always up-to-date.
Availability
imageWARE Document Manager and Scan Manager will
continue to be sold and supported by Sintaks, Canon U.S.A.'s systems
