imageRUNNER 550/600/60 Systems to Target Data
Centers And AS/400 Operating Environments with AFP/IPDS and SCS Print
Capability
Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of imaging solutions and subsidiary
of Japan-based Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ), and I-O Corporation, a leading
provider of quality peripherals for the IBM midrange and mainframe
marketplace, today announced the availability of the I-O 5435dp print
server for use with high-volume Canon imageRUNNER systems. Through use of
the I-O 5435dp, Canon imageRUNNER 550/600/60 systems will now offer their
full document finishing capabilities to native IPDS, SCS, and AFP print
jobs within IBM AS/400 environments.
"The availability of the I-O 5435dp for use with Canon imageRUNNER
is another example of our commitment to offer the most extensive
connectivity and document finishing options available in the Print On
Demand marketplace," said Dennis Amorosano, Director of Canon U.S.A.
Copier and Networked Office Systems Division. "AS/400 users can now
send their specialized booklet-making capability, along with those who are sending standard print
jobs over the network."
"We recognize Canon's position in the market and look forward to
partnering with the industry's leader," explained John Toone, OEM
Accounts Manager at I-O Corporation. "Other third-party solutions
require extensive configuration routines to gain access to finishing
commands on digital printers, and even then, the finishing commands become
default settings within `logical printers.' With Canon cooperation, I-O
eliminated those lengthy configuration steps. This will enable Canon
customers to not only attach finishing features to their AS/400 print
jobs, but do so on a job-by-job basis, directly from any PC on the
network."
The imageRUNNER 550 and 600/60 models, when connected with the I-O
5435dp, a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet print server, and Canon Network Printer
Board-F1, allow AS/400 users to print black-and-white documents on demand
at 55 and 60 pages-per-minute and 1200 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi)
resolution. With the highest finishing capability in their class, the
imageRUNNER devices can assemble complex documents such as company
reports, financial and billing statements, training materials, end user
manuals, and other mission-critical application output containing bar
codes, electronic forms, and high-end graphics.
The imageRUNNER and I-O 5435dp solution, as a whole, potentially
eliminates large capital expenditures in hardware and software, and the
time and expense associated with outsourcing. By off-loading "greenbar"
continuous feed output from outdated line printers, imageRUNNER offers a
high-speed, digital laser, cut-sheet solution with far superior document
finishing capabilities.
To ensure uninterrupted operation and greater media flexibility, the
imageRUNNER 550 and 600/60 engine duty cycle ratings are 200,000 and
250,000 impressions per month, respectively. The units accommodate up to
7,650 sheets of paper (17 lb. bond to 110 lb. index stock), replaceable
"on the fly" while the device is in operation.
The optional Canon Stapler-Stacker Finisher supports up to 2,250 sheets
of output with multi-position stapling in any page corner, or can also
double bind staple in creating booklets. The optional Canon Saddle-Stitch
Finisher builds on the Stapler-Stacker by adding 3-hole punch and
saddle-stitched output, supporting a total capacity of 3,900 sheets of
paper. An optional Z-folding Unit for folding 11" x 17"
documents into letter-sized output and a Document Inserter that delivers
post-process cover inserts, such as color documents, is also available.
Every networked Canon imageRUNNER comes standard with Canon NetSpot and
Web NetSpot Device Management Software, which simplify the installation,
configuration, and management of all Canon and third party printers that
support Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and industry standard
Management Information Base (MIB). NetSpot integrates with all major
enterprise management applications, offering proactive remote discovery
and maintenance of all network devices, while significantly enhancing
organizational time and cost efficiency. The I-O 5435dp print server for
Canon imageRUNNER 550/600/60 will be available through all authorized
Canon U.S.A. dealers, Canon Business Solutions locations, and I-O
Corporation dealers in the second quarter of 2001.
