LAKE SUCCESS, NY, April 7, 2003 - Canon U.S.A.,
Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE CAJ), today announces the immediate
availability of the Color imageRUNNER C3200, a digital multifunction
device with revolutionary technology that will set new standards for
general-office color products. Leveraging the full capabilities of Canon's
Color imagePlatform Architecture, the Color imageRUNNER C3200 offers true
multifunctionality, with the processing power and virtual space to execute
multiple jobs simultaneously, eliminating bottlenecks and improving
efficiency across every facet of business communications within corporate
environments.
The Color imageRUNNER C3200 will be on display at
the AIIM-On Demand 2003 event in New York's Jacob Javits Convention
Center, today through April 9, in Canon's booth (# 2219).
"Canon sees significant market opportunities
in color reproduction and we believe the Color imageRUNNER C3200 is
ideally suited to address the application requirements outlined by
customers in the marketplace," said Dennis Amorosano, director and
assistant general manager, Integrated Business Systems Division for Canon
U.S.A. "Technology and economics have combined so that color is now
more of a necessity than a luxury, and by equipping the Color imageRUNNER
with the full functionality of Canon's successful imagePlatform
architecture, we expect this device will take color in the office to the
next level of affordable practicality."
Designed to serve as the sole color networked
digital multifunction device in the office, Canon's Color imageRUNNER
C3200 is both fast and efficient. Boasting four-drum, single pass engine
technology, a dual 250 Mhz processor design, 768 MB RAM and a 40GB hard
disk, the device can print and copy both color and black-and-white
documents at speeds of up to 32 pages-per-minute (ppm)* and scan both
color and monochrome documents (up to 23 ppm and 36 ppm, respectively, at
600 dpi). Twin laser beam technology built into each of the four imaging
units ensures the fast speeds and outstanding image quality. The Color
imageRUNNER C3200 generates output at resolutions equivalent to 2400 x 600
dpi with image stabilization and gradation technologies, and Canon's third
generation of oil-free S-Toners produces eye-catching color with just a
touch of gloss.
The Color imageRUNNER C3200 is designed to serve
as a shared office resource and easily handle the load of several
stand-alone devices. In addition to copying, printing and scanning, the
Color imageRUNNER C3200 can easily transform into a powerful
communications hub for sharing and managing information in the office.
With its optional Universal Send capabilities, the Color imageRUNNER C3200
makes it easy to convert color hard-copy originals into digital files and
transmit them via the internet as E-mail attachments and I-Faxes, Super
G3** Fax transmissions (optional), or store them in mailboxes within the
system or elsewhere on the corporate network for archival and sharing
purposes. Newly added Universal Send capabilities include the ability to
register up to 5 LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) servers,
which allows users to quickly and easily search for email addresses from
the central corporate directory, and Canon's new PDF High-Compression file
format for more efficient transmission of full-color scanned images.
Designed to give every document a professional
look, the Color imageRUNNER offers versatile paper handling and finishing
capabilities. The device features dual 550-sheet front loading
user-adjustable paper cassettes that can accommodate paper as large as
12" x 18" in weights up to 110 lb. Index. For increased
flexibility, the device can accommodate up to two additional 550-sheet
cassettes and a 2,700-sheet paper deck. The standard 100-sheet stack
bypass tray offers the convenience of copying on stocks as large as
12.6" x 18" in weights up to 140 lb. Index, including tab paper,
envelopes and pre-punched paper. The Color imageRUNNER C3200 also
automates every step of the document finishing process, offering simple
collating and stapling to advanced saddle stitching, folding and booklet
making to allow even novice users the ability to make professional looking
documents in-house.
The Color imageRUNNER C3200 will be offered in two
product configurations - a Copier model and a Printer model. Two printer
controllers are also available to turn the Color imageRUNNER C3200 into a
networked document production and distribution powerhouse. Canon's Color
Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-A1 delivers color-printing capabilities best
suited for Microsoft Office printing applications. The Printer Kit-A1
supports PCL5c emulation, Postscript 3 emulation and Canon's new
proprietary Ultra Fast Rendering (UFR) technology. UFR technology utilizes
a newly invented printing algorithm to minimize file processing time and
achieve maximum performance.
Jointly developed by Canon and EFI, the imagePASS
C-1 controller delivers increased productivity, superior color quality,
advanced print job management tools and support for true Adobe Postscript
3 to demanding office environments. The imagePASS C-1 optimizes the
performance of the imageRUNNER C3200 engine through integrated
applications such as Command WorkStation 4 for centralized print job
management, and the controller also seamlessly connects to all popular
network platforms. The imagePASS C-1 boasts a powerful Pentium III 850 MHz
processor, 128 MB RAM and a 10 GB hard disk drive.
Like all Canon networked systems, the Color
imageRUNNER C3200 comes equipped with a comprehensive set of utilities and
features designed to simplify operation, management and security for users
and administrators alike. Features that ship standard with the device
include: Department ID mode for up to 1,000 departments or users; Canon's
web-based Remote User Interface and
NetSpot Suite. Optional features include Canon's
imageRUNNER Security Kit; imageWARE mageWARE Office Software Suite, and
eCopy's new Suite 8.0, that enables the Color imageRUNNER C3200 to easily
distribute and manage electronic copies of color paper documents and
connect the color imageRUNNER C3200 to corporate e-mail systems.
